Money for (almost) nothing – outsourcing web design

Most web designers who work solo, have done it at least once – outsourcing web design for some “easy” money.
Well, the quotation marks are there because outsourcing projects always comes with a risk.
In my early days I passed a browser compatibility job (which I personally hate but who doesn’t) to John. He took the job for 70% of its worth, leaving me with a nice 30% profit.
John usually does a decent job and delivers the work on time, but this one time he didn’t. It took him 3 extra days to fix some CSS issues. So my client got (rightfully) angry because the website wasn’t ready on time to launch.

How can you be 100% sure it will never happen to you ? well, you can’t. not if you outsource your projects. You can minimize the risks, however by agreeing on a reward/penalty system.
The reward/penalty system means that if the outsource completes the job before the due date, you add 5% to their fee, and if they are late more than a week, you deduct 5%.
This is an efficient way for you to make sure you get what you ask for in time, with your client’s satisfaction in mind.
An outsource who is late in delivering the work, harms your reputation as a credible professional.
