There are dozens of websites out there that allow web designers to submit links to their articles.
During a few months of blog promotion, I have been able to gather a few of the more effective link submission websites in terms of incoming traffic. Some of these websites also auto twit your links as well as include them in RSS feeds which brings even more traffic.

These news aggregators can be divided to ones that require free registration and the ones that don’t, however, the common trait to all is that in order to make them an effective traffic source, it’s not enough to just submit your links, you also need to gain some recognition among the community by voting for other links and socializing with fellow users.

The following list includes some of the bigger traffic sources to this blog:

On March 11th-12th I had 587 visits (considered a lot for me at the time) from Dzone to 3 FireBug Tips Every Web Developer Should Know. I also received an email from Dzone stating my link “was a DZone Big Link on March 12th.” I guess after a certain number of votes/clicks on a given link, that link becomes more popular and is displayed higher on the news list (which obviously makes it even more popular).

Besides being a high quality website in terms of usability and community features, a very nice feature in the web blend is that it lets you share your links in over 15 additional communities without entering the title and URL fields over and over again, therefore, this community junction is a good way to start promoting your links.

Here! WebTechWise is THE place to add links to your own web design and development articles and see them getting promoted. Naturally, all links are Dofollow :-)

Being an active stumbler is one of the most rewarding things you can do when you start blogging. Tia Peterson wrote a great post on useful tips for any stumbler. My tip is for SU users is that voting for your own posts in SU should not exceed 5% of your entire votes.

Queness sends RSS feed update with your links in 2-3 days delay (due to the massive amount of links submitted daily), however, over time it wound up being one of my top 5 biggest traffic sources.
